More consistent drive and strip torque values are achieved by the thread design of this 30 degree flank angle thread cutting screw for thermoset plastics. The large difference between the drive in torque and ultimate stripping torque means that the likelihood of stripping occurring during installation is virtually eliminated. The narrower thread profile and the recessed core diameter significantly reduces the torque required to cut and form threads whilst the reduced core diameter provides greater space for chips produced during the cutting process, therefore hoop stresses are minimised. The special cutting notch at the thread lead reduces radial stresses during installation. The 30 degree flank displaces less material than conventional screws therefore reducing drive in torque. Break-loose torque and vibration resistance are improved due to the greater depth of penetration of the thin flank, there is a higher friction force acting on the threads and as the fine pitch ensures that a greater no. of threads engage the plastic, clamp loads are maintained and vibration is dissipated over a greater surface area therefore minimising the stress levels.
