DHV Ultrasonic Inserts for tapered holes are especially designed for Ultrasonic Installation into Thermoplastics. They have a knurled and vaned brass body internally threaded, providing high pull-out and torque resistance. The special design permits automated feeding and rapid installation. The insert lends itself to heat installation in many materials.
The insert is installed using Ultrasonic units that develop frictional heat between the insert and the plastic, thus softening a narrow zone around the insert. The softened plastic flows around the knurl and vane grooves then re - solidifies to provide the high strength characteristics of a moulded - in - insert.
A tapered hole is specified for more accurate positioning of the insert, and easier mould release. The E & F figures tabulated are suggested for general types of thermoplastic. Specific applications may require variations to these figures.
To obtain maximum strength, the wall thickness should be 0.5 to 1.0 times the outside diameter. Where the insert is to be installed in a circular boss, the diameter should be 2 to 3 times the insert diameter.
